Our Laboratories

The NIHR Leicester Respiratory Biomedical Research Unit (BRU) is at the forefront of pioneering concepts regarding the pathogenesis and management of asthma and COPD. Over the last decade, the Respiratory Group in Leicester has made a number of paradigm shifting observations and developed into an internationally recognized group based on our excellent research record. The BRU, comprised of staff from both the University Hospitals of Leicester and the University of Leicester, was founded in 2012 and moved into a state-of-the-art clinical research building in 2013.

Here at the BRU, we believe that it is essential that new therapies are matched to the right patients using the most appropriate outcome measures, consist with the idea of stratified or personalized medicine.

We carry out innovative and challenging trials, both investigator-led trials as well as commercial clinical trials.

If you are looking for somewhere to run clinical trials for new therapies, the Leicester Respiratory BRU could be ideal. With a highly skilled medical team of dedicated doctors, nurses and support staff, our new state-of-the-art research building including clinic rooms, a small ward, lung physiology and exercise equipment we are able to provide a wide-range of services.

If you volunteer for one of our clinical trials, you’ll have the satisfaction of helping us develop new and innovative treatments for asthma and COPD.
